About this role
What the job actually involves
You'll own firmware for the microcontroller boards used across LearnOBots kits — the layer between a student's block-code program and a motor that actually turns. Most weeks split between new module bring-up and fixing the specific failure a delivery site reported, not the failure a spec sheet predicted.
This is a hardware-adjacent role: you'll work closely with the team revising the Digital Pod enclosure and the curriculum team defining what a kit needs to do pedagogically, not just electrically.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain C/C++ firmware for kit microcontrollers
- Debug field-reported hardware/firmware issues from delivery sites
- Work with curriculum team to scope what new modules require electrically
- Maintain the internal test rig used to validate boards before shipment
Requirements
- 2+ years writing embedded C/C++ for microcontrollers (AVR, STM32 or similar)
- Comfortable reading a schematic and debugging with a multimeter and logic analyser
- Experience shipping firmware to hardware that leaves the building, not just a lab bench
Nice to have
- Experience with education or consumer robotics hardware
- Familiarity with block-code environments (Scratch-derived or similar)
